Amidst the growing risk of global cyberattacks, a state-of-the-art cyber security system has been launched to bolster the digital security of Chittagong Port, the country’s primary seaport. This new system will protect the port’s network, online transactions, operational data, and logistics systems from cyber threats.

Rear Admiral S M Moniruzzaman, Chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), officially inaugurated the system as the chief guest during a ceremony held at the CPA conference room at 12:00 PM on Sunday (June 28).

CPA Secretary Md. Nasir Uddin noted that almost all critical operations of the port are now digital platform-dependent. Consequently, an international-standard security framework has been established to counter various cyber threats, including ransomware, malware, and DDoS attacks.

The new system features early detection of potential attacks, data sensitivity protection, virus/malware prevention, 24/7 network activity monitoring, and a round-the-clock Security Operations Center (SOC) for immediate incident response. It also includes digital forensic logging for future investigations.

The project officially commenced on January 11 of this year through an agreement with Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, managed by the Bangladesh Navy. According to port authorities, this technology aligns with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, boosting Bangladesh’s reliability and capability in international shipping.
